Using ELF to Consolidate Library Accounts

Filed under: Uncategorized — danschellenberg @ 5:23 pm

I stumbled across a very nifty tool today called ELF at http://www.libraryelf.com/. In essence, it is allowing me to combine notifications for mine and my wife’s library accounts at the local public library. Our library (Regina Public) wasn’t on the list of available libraries this morning, so I sent an email to the maintainer of the site, and within 2 hours, our library had been added.

Notifications regarding your loans can be given through email, RSS, or text messaging. All this for free. Quite a service. No more late fees due to forgetting to return a book!

Beethoven Symphonies Available for Free (All Nine!)

Filed under: Uncategorized — danschellenberg @ 12:00 am

For a limited time (see their page for details), the BBC is offering free MP3’s of the BBC Philharmonic performing all nine of the Beethoven Symphonies. The “catch” is that you have to download them within one week of them being performed. The schedule is as follows:

Symphonies 1 & 3 will be broadcast on Monday 6th June, and available to download from Tuesday 7th June to Monday 13th June.
Symphonies 2, 4 & 5 will be broadcast on Tuesday 7th June, and available to download from Wednesday 8th June to Tuesday 14th June.
Symphony 6 will be broadcast on Monday 27th June, and available to download from Tuesday 28th June to Monday 4th July.
Symphony 7 will be broadcast on Tuesday 28th June, and available to download from Wednesday 29th June to Tuesday 5th July.
Symphony 8 will be broadcast on Wednesday 29th June, and available to download from Thursday 30th June to Wednesday 6th July.
Symphony 9 will be broadcast on Thursday 30th June, and available to download from Friday 1st July to Thursday 7th July.

I am listening to the first symphony as I type this, and the quality is very good (128 bps MP3 encoded). Go check out the BBC Beethoven downloads page and improve your classical music library.
